ICMR Approves TB Machines For COVID-19 Testing.

Diagnostic machines used to test drug-resistant tuberculosis (TB) have now been approved by Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) for conducting Covid-19 tests.

“ICMR has recommended use of Truenat beta CoV test on Truelab workstation validated by ICMR as a screening test. Also, use of US-FDA approved closed real time Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR) systems like GeneXpert and Roche Cobas – 6800/800 have been approved under emergency use,” ICMR has stated in its guidance.

A top executive from Molbio diagnostics which manufactures Truenat told Businessline that the company already has over 800 Truenat machines in place across India primarily for use in detecting drug-resistant TB, of which close to 400 were in government set-ups. Out of which 257 are in Andhra Pradesh alone, at district and sub-district level.

The state of Tamil Nadu has topped at the All India Level for microirrigation (MI), under Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana (PMKSY), with a coverage of 2,06,853.25 ha for the year financial year 2019-20. … At the all-India level, 43.71 lakh ha of land were brought under micro irrigation in the last 5 years.

All Testing And Treatment Is Free For Ayushman Bharat Beneficiaries.

Testing and treatment for COVID-19 will be free of cost for Ayushman Bharat beneficiaries at private laboratories and empanelled hospitals, the National Health Authority (NHA) said on Saturday.

The NHA, which implements the national health insurance scheme, said this will strengthen the country’s response to the novel coronavirus pandemic.

Start-Up Aero-Biosys Innovations Develops Low-Cost Ventilator Called ‘Jeevan Lite’ At IIT-Hyderabad.

Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad-incubated start-up Aerobiosis Innovations has developed a low-cost, portable, emergency-use ventilator, the institute said on Friday.

Called “Jeevan Lite,” the device developed by the Centre for Healthcare Entrepreneurship (CFHE) at the institute offers protection to healthcare providers as well as it is Internet of Things-enabled and can be operated through a phone app. It can also be battery-operated, enabling its deployment in areas without assured power supply.

Mahmoud Jibril, the former leader of the opposition Libyan government during the civil war that toppled Muammar Gaddafi after 4o years of rule, has died in Cairo after being hospitalised with the coronavirus. Jibril’s death at a hospital in the Egyptian capital was confirmed by his party, the Alliance of National Forces, on Sunday. The 67-year-old had been quarantined at a hospital in the city since late last month.

The Chief Minister of Odisha, Naveen Patnaik has been conferred with Hero to Animals Award by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) India for allocating funds to feed community animals in five municipal corporations and all 48 municipalities of Odisha during the COVID-19 lockdown. He has allocated Rs 54 lakhs from a relief fund for the same.

With the Government of India appealing its citizens to donate funds towards the Prime Minister’s citizen assistance and relief in emergency situations fund (PM CARES) in order to deal with coronavirus pandemic in the country, HDFC Bank has been nominated to collect the donations that will be utilized to provide relief to the affected.

“Indian Overseas Bank (IOB), has been nominated by the government for collection of funds, which will be used to support the community during the Coronavirus outbreak. The funds will be assigned to PM-Cares Fund,” the bank said in a statement.
